Did you know that This little piggy is actually very old? This pig went to market was one of the 9 nursery rhymes in the first edition of The Famous Tommy Thumb's little story-book. The collection was first published in 1760. According to nursery rhymes researcher Opie the little book was among three of the earliest collections of nursery rhymes.

Many sources also mention the William Blake poem The Nurse's Song in relation to specifically the first line "This pig went to market", published in 1728. However, unless I have the wrong poem or the wrong first line, I haven't been able to find the particular line in the poem.
